Happy when You're Happy

Let’s start my first blog post after a long time with something I realized during my ‘hiatus’. Something that I’ve told many people actually, but hasn’t had a chance at a larger crowd due to my poor willpower, energy and time management skills. Something that is so groundbreaking that I think you should know too:
"It’s easy to be happy when we’re happy"
“… huh?”
Raise your hand if that’s your reaction reading that sentence.

What a weird saying, isn’t it?
I mean, of course it’s easy to be happy when we’re happy. Because we ARE happy, duh!
So obvious, nothing new or groundbreaking about it.
But have we actually thought about it?
It’s easy to feel comfortable when everything is so convenient to us.
It’s easy to think clearly when we’re in a good mood.
It’s easy to feel inspired and motivated when everything goes well.
It’s easy to encourage others to be happy when we’re happy ourselves.
It’s easy to feel happy when you’re feeling happy.
And when we’re not?
When we’re in a bad mood.
When we feel sad, angry, upset, disappointed, tired.
When we’re struggling.
With deadline, with the heat, with people.
No matter how inspiring, encouraging, or motivating the words we hear, we just won't believe it.
We almost can’t feel happy.
We can’t even think that we will be happy.
Because it’s hard to do so.
Someone admirable said this once:
“We come across hard time very often, don’t we?
But once it passes, we will be okay, and it will be fine again. And there will be times when we’re happy and feel good too.
However, …. this kind of thought just doesn’t come to mind when you’re having a hard time. When we’re having a hard time, we constantly feel like we’re truly going to fall apart. Hence, we can’t even think of the thought that we’ll be okay again once it passes.”

I also figured out that I treat things in positive manner and give away some sweet, encouraging, and nice words mostly when I’m in a good mood. And if things go bad, I only learn my lesson AFTER things have gotten better, AFTER I overcome the hardships, or AFTER I finally forgive and let go the misfortunes. Basically, it’s when I’m no longer dealing with that bad situation that I can be all wise and say things like, “it all happened for a reason”.

Now, you get the point.
It’s easy to be happy when we’re happy.
And it’s hard to be happy when we’re not happy.
But I can’t just end it here. Leaving you with a “ok I get it, so what?” question or putting a hopeless & pathetic idea of “I can never be happy then”.
So let me say this one last thing:
It’s great if you’re happy. Share the positivity with the world.
However, understand how challenging it is for others to match your vibe when they’re not in the condition to do so. You know how hard it is to be happy when you’re struggling. Wish them a wonderful day or remind them of how beautiful the world. But be considerate if they don’t go all smiley the way you want them to be.
And if you’re not happy, it’s okay.
I can’t tell you that, “this is temporary, everything will get better, and you’ll be fine again. It happened many times before, so it will be like that again”. Because even though it’s true, I know it’s so hard to believe. So don’t feel bad for going through what you’re going through. Just focus on healing, and I’ll do the believing.
